Certain cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation, tummy tucks and liposuction remain popular year after year. In fact, according to a report from RealSelf, breast augmentation and abdominoplasty were the top two most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in 2019, with breast lifts, liposuction and mommy makeovers making the top 10 list. This is consistent with data from previous years, with the same procedures topping the charts.
So, what makes these cosmetic surgeries stay so popular? One important piece of the puzzle is that there are a number of different ways that breast augmentation, tummy tucks, liposuction and other popular procedures can be customized to help men and women achieve their goals.
This guide outlines the benefits of some of the top cosmetic treatments in 2019 to help you decide if one or more could be right for you in 2020.
Breast Augmentation
While breast augmentation has remained popular for decades, its trends have fluctuated over the years. Breast implants don’t have to be disproportionately large, as they have sometimes been portrayed in popular culture. In fact, current trends in breast enhancement now focus on more modest size increases that achieve a very natural look and feel while still offering a boost of volume.
One of the many benefits of breast augmentation is that the process is very customizable. The size, shape, profile and even incision placement are custom-tailored to your needs and preferences. This results in natural-looking results that complement and highlight your natural curves.
Additionally, there are now more breast implant choices than ever before, from saline to silicone, to “gummy bear” implants, to high, moderate and low profiles. This allows women of any build and body type to find breast implants that will not only meet her cosmetic goals but also remain in balance with her natural body shape.
Breast Lift
As breast implants continue to remain popular year after year, so do other breast procedures like breast lifts. In some instances, including a breast lift with implants is recommended to help reposition your breasts higher on your chest wall while still achieving an increase in volume. For some women, it makes the most sense to simply combine these two breast enhancement procedures into a single surgery with one recovery time, rather than spacing them out.
In other cases, a breast lift is performed on its own to eliminate drooping and excess skin without adding extra volume. The right procedure or combination of procedures for you will depend on your unique goals and physical anatomy. But with or without the addition of implants, a breast lift can help you achieve a more rejuvenated and youthful look and feel.
Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty, also called a tummy tuck, is another multi-year winner for top cosmetic treatment trends. Like breast enhancement, a tummy tuck can be customized to suit your specific goals and cosmetic or even medical concerns. In addition to removing excess skin, abdominoplasty can also repair separated abdominal muscles caused by a condition called diastasis recti.
Diastasis recti is quite common among women who have had children, as well as men and women who are significantly overweight. When the abdominal muscles become separated, surgical repair is often the most effective solution. If this is a concern for you, your cosmetic surgeon should be able to correct it during your cosmetic tummy tuck, leaving you with a smoother and slimmer contour.
Liposuction
One of the many reasons why liposuction continues to top the charts of the most popular cosmetic procedures is that it can remove stubborn fat from a wide range of areas — including your hips, waist, love handles, back, thighs and upper arms.
Many men and women find that liposuction is an excellent addition to their existing diet and fitness goals, as some areas of fat can be particularly challenging to get rid of through diet and exercise alone.
Liposuction is often included in a tummy tuck to offer more comprehensive results, both removing stubborn fat and tightening loose skin.
Mommy Makeover
If the benefits of more than one of the aforementioned cosmetic procedures caught your attention, you might be a good candidate for a mommy makeover. A mommy makeover combines multiple cosmetic surgeries into one, allowing you to pick and choose which trouble spots you’d like to address.
For instance, many women choose to include breast augmentation, abdominoplasty and liposuction in a mommy makeover to help them achieve more than one cosmetic goal at a time. One of the most obvious benefits of getting a mommy makeover is that you typically only have to schedule one surgery and, therefore, only have one period of downtime, yet you get the benefits of several procedures.
